Combined Science

Science at The Roseland Academy is inspiring and empowering students to make informed decisions about their lives. Covering all three science disciplines and making links between them in a logical sequence. Students are taught through questioning, discovery and evidence based thinking to understand the world around them. Also to use their local environment and apply this to future world developments.

This qualification is a two-year linear course, meaning that students will sit all their exams at the end of the course. Science is a set of ideas about the material world. The AQA specification includes all the parts of what good science is at GCSE level: whether it be investigating, observing, experimenting or testing out ideas and thinking about them. The way scientific ideas flow through the specification will support you in building a deep understanding of science.

Science is exciting, innovative and one of the most fundamental subjects that students study. We aim to develop the scientific skills and knowledge that students bring with them. We want them to learn more of the powerful ideas and ways of doing things that Scientists have discovered and invented, to gain a wider experience of experimenting and investigating for themselves; to work scientifically and to think hard about how the natural world works. The tricks of colours and chemicals, and the magic of living things are as interesting as ever!

Here at The Roseland Academy Science Department, we are enthusiastic about our subject and whilst proud of our achievements we are always looking for ways to develop and improve. We respond positively to new initiatives and share good practice, ideas and resources. Our high expectations of all our pupils and ensure that each pupil achieves their potential by using a wide variety of teaching techniques to accommodate individual learning styles. Students regularly say that science is one of their favorite subjects.

Scientific exploration has formed and continues to shape the way in which we view the world. We hope students will recognise how enormously useful Science has become and how important it is to use our knowledge thoughtfully and responsibly.
